Shevardnadze had a secret meeting with Gelaev in one of his mansions near Pankissi. Wow, that could hurt, if such information could get into hands of Russians or Americans. However, now there is no reason to argue about Shevardnadze’s connection with Chechen terrorist units. For sure Shevardnadze forbid to mention the questions that were raised on the meeting, the Journalists could hear only formal “no comments” all the way. Nobody needs a professor degree in politology to guess, what the conversation was about and what a version Georgia is going to present Russia. But now it’s completely clear - Shevardnadze covers Chechen terrorist units in Pankissi in exchange of fulfilling some political or criminal tasks. Nobody except of Chechen well-trained terrorists can do kidnappings, murdings or mobbing of prominent political figures to keep control over the situation in Georgia. In case if this conversation is going to be given to publicity there is another version for Russia and America to think over - the aims of this conversation supposed to be a non-formal attempt to regulate the situation in Pankissi. America is going to believe that and won’t let Russia intervene in these affairs.
