Judicial Accountability vs. Judicial Immunity worldwide

[ European Journal of International Law- Discussion Forum ] [ Forum Help ]

Greetings,

I am an American citizen and I am most surprised that Judicial immunity protects judges from so many infractions that they may commit during the course of their tenure. I was surprised that there was even caselaw to prove that Judges in the USA did not have to hold true to their oath of office!

I believe this judicial immunity is derived from British Common Law. I can conjecture from there that since British Common Law has so heavily influenced judicial systems worldwide, Judicial immunity in the intensity of that enjoyed by USA Judges, is probably enjoyed in many many countries.

Can anybody here name any countries where Judicial Immunity is lost when judges break the law or are incompetent? Or can anybody here name any countries where Judicial Accountability to the public citizens is weighed as a heavier truth than that of Judicial Immunity? THank you.
