The New EJIL and WEB-EJIL - A Guided Tour

WEB-EJIL is a lot more than an electronic brochure for the European Journal of International Law though it is not a full on-line version of the EJIL. It should be seen as an integral extension of the Paper Version of EJIL the importance of which will grow rapidly. There are many features "substantive" and "procedural" which WEB-EJIL offers and which are not available in the paper version.

Here is a list of the principal features of WEB-EJIL - we encourage you to experiment and let us know what you like and what you do not like.

Current Issue will provide the table of contents of the most current issue of the EJIL, an online version of the most current Editorial, abstracts of the principal articles in the current issue and the full text of the Current Survey. Indeed, from now onwards the paper version of EJIL will provide only a brief summary of the current surveys and the full-blooded version will appear only on the web-site - including links to the primary sources to which the survey refers.

It also includes a full text of the current Book Reviews and of the books received at the Journal.

Current Issue is probably your initial port of entry to WEB-EJIL.

The Archive is the second principal feature of WEB-EJIL. You will find in it all tables-of-content of previous EJIL issues though, not yet, full text. You will, however, find a full text of all prior Current Surveys - an invaluable resource in those fields where the EJIL has been providing a unique service such as the comprehensive coverage of all European Community Commercial Defense Actions and Other International Trade Measures . There is also a full text version of all previous Book Reviews as well as a list of Books Available for Review. We do not promise to satisfy each and every demand for a review copy, but we are trying to expand our roster of reviewers. We also provide some links to publishers, which we will be expanding, as well as to some on-line bookshops. We would be happy to add other on-line sources of purchasing books, especially in the non English speaking world.

Under the Information rubric we provide a vehicle for communicating with the editors, information about subscription to the paper version of EJIL (WEB-EJIL is free) and material concerning submission of articles to the EJIL, style sheet etc.

A separate Discussion Forum provides a vehicle for readers of the EJIL and WEB-EJIL to post public comments on articles published in the EJIL and, indeed, on any other aspects of international law. We hope the EJIL discussion forum will become an important feature not only of the EJIL but of the international community of lawyers more generally. We have selected extremely user-friendly software and it is possible with ease to select an option which will notify you each time a message is posted.

In our Links we plan to be circumspect - the Web is suffering from a surfeit of links. We have posted a few links to the Institutions involved in the production of the EJIL and WEB-EJIL, to some of the major international actors and - as a research tool to the Harvard Law School Library international and comparative website which will be a vehicle through which you can reach a variety of sources on-line with the advantage of continuous updating. We are especially keen to receive suggestions of important links we should carry.

We invite you to Join our Email list . This is a free non-commercial service (the list will not be given out to anyone outside EJIL) whereby you will be informed directly each time a new EJIL is published, with its table of contents etc.

We also provide a link to an Internet Translator which will enable you to translate each page of WEB-EJIL to a variety of languages. Some laughs are guaranteed, but occasionally it works remarkably well. We were surprised.

Please remember - EJIL has a new publisher, Oxford University Press. Kindly make sure that your subscription or that of your library has been changed accordingly. Oxford University Press is offering a special rate for individual subscribers. Take Advantage of the special $65 per annum individual rate.

We hope you will Enjoy the New EJIL and its accompanying WEB-EJIL.
